Space Manager Database
The Office of Space Management (OSM) manages the daily maintenance of the Space Manager Database (SMDB), which is used to track actual usage of all academic space.
The SMDB is a comprehensive inventory of all academic space on and off campus, including room details such as square footage, actual usage, CSU mandated usage, number of stations (occupants), and what department / college the space is assigned to.
The SMDB is a vital tool used in Academic Resources to provide objective analysis of historical / functional use and to help support recommendations and decisions for academic space allocation and distribution.
Space information reports are provided by OSM at the request of designated College and Department space contacts. The data included in the space reports is helpful to view a snapshot of current space use and to aid in future planning.
Each fiscal year a census of the space inventory in the SMDB is conducted to maintain accurate information about actual space use. A space survey is performed in partnership with the College / Department space contacts.
These space survey guidelines are provided to help you through the process. Read each item carefully and keep in mind the need for accuracy throughout your college / department survey.
At the completion of the space survey process, OSM updates the SMDB and distributes an updated space report. Depending on the scope of changes, a follow-up meeting between OSM, College / Dept. contact, and the AVP of Academic Resources may be scheduled.
